The wheel and pulley were not yet invented. The task was to stack stone blocks weighing two and a half tons on top of one another. Around 2.3 million limestone blocks were built. One brick weighs 2.5 tons. For several thousand years, the pyramids of Giza have captured the imagination and have recently been the subject of extensive research. Today the "riddle of the pyramids" is almost a household word. At least once it was claimed that the riddle had finally been solved, although the alleged solution later turned out to be untenable.
